What would you call blackmail?

November 19th 2007 19:52
Blackmail is the act of threatening to reveal information about a person, or even do something to destroy the threatened person, unless the blackmailed target fulfills certain demands.

Both Democrat leaders, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi have stated that if President Bush doesn't agree to start bringing the troops home he will not get anymore money for the war this year.

I believe this is a blackmail attempt for the dems to get what they want at the expense of our troops that are fighting a war, and have no say in the politics involved.

Why would the dems want to put our troops in even more harm, because of the petty feelings. This battle of the dems, and president can be solved very easily. Just let the American people vote on it, put it on the ballot.

But stop using funding that our brave armed forces need to stay safe in a hostile country as a blackmail vise to use. It sends a bad signal to the troops, to our enemies, and a very bad signal to America as well.

Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi, the only ones you are hurting are the Troops, and no one else. STOP using our Troops as political toy to get what you want. Why don't you over paid bunch of bureaucrats for go your salaries, and see how it feels, to lack funding.

I don't think this is a ethical way for our elected leaders to be acting, this Childish, and irresponsible way of embolding our enemies. You are playing with the only thing that is keeping you safe. Have no doubts that if it wasn't for our Military the Terrorist would be blowing up your offices.

The Democrats should stand up and show patriotism, and support for our Troops, and stop siding with the enemy.

Please vote, and leave your comment. I would like to know what you think?

.

Several flaws in reasoning in this post but this one is the most obvious because it is based upon a common logical fallacy.

It presumes that anyone who does not support your proposal is unpatriotic. What you are really saying is that you have nominated yourself as the judge of what is patriotic and what is unpatriotic behaviour.

Hey Damo

I am not accusing them of being unpatriotic because they are against the war. I don't think anyone in their right minds likes war. I am saying they are acting unpatriotic toward the Troops as their attitude has been less that kind, they treat the Troops as though it was their fault for being in Iraq.

Lets face it Republicans and Democrats alike are responsible for our Troops being over there. The Dems voted, and supported the war, only after they saw their political base was against it did they change their minds.

Now they use money that our Troops need to stay safe as blackmail to bring them home. I want them home as soon as possible, and wish they had never been sent over in the first place.

The Dems need to quite playing games with the funding of our Troops, stop em-bolding our enemies, support the Troops, and work to find a bipartisan means to bring the Troops home.

My concern with what you have written comes from your underlying premise is that you have defined what it means to offer support to the troops. Every other definition is invalid to the point of being unpatriotic.

The other problem is stipulating that people are being unpatriotic toward the troops.
This is a very rare definition of patriotism. Normally people are patriotic to a nation but not to the troops who serve it. You can be loyal to the troops but it is a vastly different thing than being patriotic to them.

The question of 'embolding the enemy' is another matter that has not been demonstrated with any evidence. Firstly because the specific enemy is not defined; Secondly because the causal link must be proven rather than assumed; Thirdly the term 'embolden' does not specify how it will manifest it self.

Hey Damo, our troops are Representatives of the United States. They defend her freedoms, protect her, and they give their lives in many cases for what she stands for.

So I would say that our Troops are a very important part of our country if not for the Military past and present our Nation would not exist.

I am not calling anyone unpatriotic because of their political views, but because they hurt our military promoting their political views of which our troops are innocent.

There is a gap of opinion here that I belive that we cannot bridge.
The gap is the definition of support.
So I will respectfully agree to disagree.
