How to avoid the Sting!
January 18th 2008 09:01
I came across this article today, I enjoyed it so much I just had to pass it on.
This was written by Rev. Donald R. Browning :
Two brothers were playing in their backyard when one of them gets stung by a bee. He instantly falls to his knees and begins to pray. When the younger brother sees the bee sting, he begins running around the yard yelling and screaming as the bee is now chasing him.
The older brother asks him why he is running around yelling and screaming. He says because I don't want to get stung. The older brother says to him he can't sting you, his stinger is still in me.
1Cor. 15:55-57 says, O death. where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you want to avoid the sting of death? The sting of death is sin. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)
As the stinger was left in the older brother so the younger could not be stung. Jesus Christ, the first born among the brothers (Rom. 8:29), took the sting of death on the cross of crucifixion so that you and I can avoid the sting.
Jesus gives victory over the sting of death, because he died in our place, took upon himself the sin of the whole world, and after three days was resurrected to life victorious over death and the grave. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord, Savior, and Master and accept his sacrifice on the cross of calvary, and ask him to forgive us our sins and cleanse us, we can rest assured that the sting of death will not destroy us. But in order to avoid the sting you must accept Jesus and his atoning sacrifice. There is no other way Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life: no man cometh to the father but by me." (John 14:6)
Money won't keep you from getting stung. Power and prestige won't keep you from the sting. Good works won't keep you from the sting. Only Jesus Christ, and his finished work on the cross can give you victory to avoid the sting.
