A shocking and disturbing story came out of RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil it seems that a 15 year old girl was arrested on accusations of breaking and entering a house Oct. 21. That's not the shocking and disturbing part of it.
She was put in jail with 21 male inmates, and spent weeks there where she was raped repeatedly. She said that if she didn't have sex with at least two of the men she wasn't allowed to have any food to eat.
I would like to know how something this heinous could happen, but women in Brazil continue to suffer from the lack of equality. Officials did nothing until this story came to light and they were forced to do something.
Officials say she was not harmed, but private testimony told of torture. It is reported that lit cigarettes was put on her fingers and heals to force her to have sex. Her hair was cut off to make her look like a boy.
The Brazilian Bar Association tried to pass her off as a 23 year old woman to hide this disgusting story. Her father said in an interview that police threaten to arrest him if he didn't say the 15 year old girl was 20.
The girl has received death threats, as if she hasn't been through enough already. She is in a program for the Protection of Children and Adolescents threatened with death.
Amnesty International said Brazilian women are the hidden victims of a crumbling detention system, and many cases of women abused under government custody go unreported or uninvestigated.
It is a scary thing that in the 21st century women, and children are treated with this indignity, and are force to suffer such torture and humiliation.
