To much Pork
November 16th 2007 14:30
The battle is over pork barrel spending that the dems have load into the Health and Education bill that President Bush has vetoed. The White House says the 606 billion Health and Education bill was filled with 2000 earmarks for the dems.
Wasteful Projects included was a prison museum, a sailing school taught aboard a catamaran and a Portuguese - as - a - second - language program. These are down right stupid projects, and need to be removed. But I guess at times the Republicans have done as bad.
The Democrats say President Bush's veto was pure politics, this bill was bipartisan, and supported by 50 republicans. Bush said that the dems had a tax and spend philosophy, and that they were acting like teenagers with a new credit card.
There are valid spending that I do agree with as I am a compassionate Conservative. I Believe we need to help the poor, elderly, and disabled. That's one of the teaching of Jesus Christ, he wants us to help the less fortunate. Charity begins at home. ( America ) But that's just my opinion.
Some of the things I agree with the dems on are spending increases for domestic programs such as job training programs, health research at the National Institutes of Health, heating subsidies for the poor, grants to community action agencies, Education Department, community health centers.
These are programs we cannot afford not to fund, as the cost of living is rising faster than wage increases, this winter will prove devastating to the poor, elderly, and disabled.
Also things we cannot afford not to fund is the Military. Our brave men and woman are fighting for the United States, not just for the Republican party, but for all of America. Our Government should make sure they have everything they need and then some.
The House Republicans sustained that veto, so there would be not two thirds veto override, the numbers were 277 - 141. Democrats say they will send Bush a bundled bill and if he vetoed it they will put the Government on autopilot at current spending levels for weeks or months.
